Jokes - from a psychological point of view
Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) wrote that jokes are connected to the unconscious part of our mind.
Jokes give us the opportunity to express some thoughts or feelings that we normally can't deal with.
When we laugh at jokes, Freud says, the unconscious energies are trying to reach the conscious mind.
For instance
jokes about the doctor can be seen
as an expression of some unconscious feelings that we normally don't talk about. Death for instance.
Or
jokes about men or women can be seen
as an expression of stereotypes. So jokes (about men, women, doctors etc) do have a psykological meaning.
